How Ranked Matches Work

🏆 How Ranked Matches Work on CueRanks

Understanding how ranked matches work is key to climbing the leaderboard. Here’s a breakdown of how everything works each cycle—whether you’re playing weekly or bi-weekly (depending on your venue):

🔄 New Match Cycle

At the start of each ranked match cycle, players will either be:

  • Assigned a match, or
  • Given a bye

🎱 If You Are Given a Match

Your performance this cycle determines your future path. Here’s how the match system works:

🔻 Playing Down

If you lost your previous ranked match, you’re scheduled to play someone ranked below you (within 5 spots).

  • Win while playing down: You do not move up this cycle.
  • But you’ll be scheduled to play up next cycle.

🔺 Playing Up

If you won your previous ranked match, you’ll be scheduled to play someone ranked above you (within 5 spots).

If you win while playing up, you can move up the rankings based on how strong your win was:

📈 Rank Movement Based on Win Strength

Here’s how your ranking will improve based on how dominant your win is:

Win Strength Example (Race to 5) Spots You Move Up
100% Shutout 5–0 ⬆️ 3 Spots
40% – 90% Margin 5–1 or 5–2 ⬆️ 2 Spots
1% – 39% Margin 5–3 or 5–4 ⬆️ 1 Spot

📝 The better your performance, the faster you climb!

🛋️ If You Receive a Bye

If you don’t receive a ranked match this cycle:

  • You’re not penalized—you just get a break.
  • However, you can challenge any player ranked above you during that cycle.

💡 This is your chance to move up on your own terms—take advantage of it!

💬 Final Thoughts

Ranked matches are designed to be competitive, fair, and motivating. Whether you’re playing up, down, or sitting out with a bye, every cycle gives you a chance to climb.

Good luck and play hard! 🎱🔥
